Tout comme les monstres apparaissent à l'écran, une horloge à cadran appelée "Mog Clock" apparaît au milieu de la moitié inférieure de l'écran et un anneau rouge entoure le personnage du joueur avec un rayon d'environ 3 mètres.
Le système Crux permet aux joueurs de sauter à travers différentes portes tout au long de XIII-2. Les joueurs verront un changement radical, en fonction de leurs choix. Cela irait également vers les multiples fins du jeu.
Les joueurs seront présentés avec un problème de puzzle dans un vide entre les dimensions.
Le joueur recevra une série d'arbres de dialogue lorsqu'il parlera à des personnages non-joueurs (NPC).
